Please reach me at sara@mountainpeakpilates.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Your first session starts with a waiver and short intake where I will ask you some questions about yourself. We will go over any injuries or issues you may have so that I can tailor your Pilates sessions to your body. Then we will do some general Pilates exercises so that I can gauge your strength, mobility, flexibility, etc. You can expect a well-rounded workout that will take about 30 of our 50 minutes together.
Wear comfy clothing that you can move in. I usually wear athletic attire (e.g., stretchy leggings, T-shirt, etc.). Bring grippy socks if you have them, or you can wear a pair of studio socks if you don't have your own.
You won't be charged until your session is complete. We can accept any form of payment (e.g., credit card, cash, check, Venmo). If you would like to have an Unlimited Monthly Membership, you will be charged a pro-rated amount for the remainder of the current month, and then you will receive a pay link on the first of the month following that. You can cancel any time for any reason. Your first session is free!
Everyone has stuff that comes up last-minute. I totally understand! If you know ahead of time that you won't be able to make it, I kindly ask that you cancel/reschedule through the website within at least 24 hours of your session. If you woke up sick, are stuck in a meeting, have a flat tire, etc., just send me a text.
I clean my studio every day and sanitize my equipment after each client. I am also happy to wear a mask upon request.
I'm not 22 and super fit either. I like to say that Pilates meets you wherever you are. I've been extensively trained in how to best tailor any of the hundreds and hundreds of Pilates exercises to the capabilities of any body. Together we will put together a plan that will move you forward to whatever your goals are.
Yes, yes, and yes. Joseph Pilates developed his original method to help rehabilitate soldiers in WWI. I have had countless men complain to me about back pain, rotator cuff issues, knee and hip issues, etc. because they sit at a desk all day / can't play basketball like they used to / were playing too hard with their kids / sneezed extra hard. You know what helps with all of that? Pilates.
Pilates is a really effective cross-training technique that compliments many fitness programs and sports training regimes. Every Pilates class moves your spine in all directions while toning both major and minor muscle groups. This results in increased mobility and stability across your whole body. Many professional athletes cross-train in Pilates to help them train harder in their main modalities while effectively avoiding injury.
I think it is really smart to get a solid Pilates foundation before you start attending a group class. Group classes are often more cost-effective, but a group teacher can only give you a minimal amount of attention when there is a full room of other people to monitor. I'm happy to spend one or more sessions with you to give you the foundation you need to move safely and effectively in group classes.
Absolutely. Pilates includes many exercises that are specifically designed to help increase mobility and balance. Joseph Pilates once said, "If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young." If you want to keep moving and feeling good as you age, Pilates is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Definitely. Pilates is an excellent stepdown from physical therapy following a major joint replacement. Just make sure you have been ok-ed by your doctor and/or physical therapist to resume physical activity.
Definitely. Most Pilates exercises focus on strengthening your deep core muscles. This can help take pressure off of the spine and encourage a better range of motion through your trunk. Just make sure you have been ok-ed by your doctor and/or physical therapist to resume physical activity.
Definitely. Pilates exercises are designed to help establish and strengthen your mind-body connection. We breathe deeply and with purpose. This often results in lowering stress levels and calming the mind. Just make sure you have been ok-ed by your doctor to resume physical activity.
Absolutely. Pilates is one of very few exercise modalities that is safe and effective for all trimesters of pregnancy, as well as post-partum. I wouldn't recommend starting Pilates classes if you are late in your pregnancy and haven't been working out consistently since you first became pregnant. Pilates is also counter-indicated if you have preeclampsia, early contractions, or other pregnancy complications. Always get an ok from your doctor before you get started.
Many aspects of Pilates are really beneficial for kids. Every Pilates exercise encourages a mind-body connection that can help kids increase proprioception, focus, and calmness. Developing a personal Pilates practice can also boost self-esteem and general fitness. I only do apparatus-based classes with kids who are 14+ years old--kids younger than that just aren't big enough to move the machines. I do Pilates Mat classes for younger children. I also ask that a parent or guardian stays with their child through the class (i.e., no drop-offs please).
It depends on what your goals are. Joseph Pilates famously said, "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see a difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body." I usually recommend 2-3 sessions a week if you are looking to rehabilitate an injury (following physical therapy) or increase your general fitness level. With 3+ sessions a week, you will notice faster changes in your body and a quicker leveling-up of your Pilates practice.
I only have 1 Reformer in my studio, so I generally train one client at a time. I'm happy to put together a Mat class for up to 3 people, but that class will not include any props or other equipment. Reach out to me at sara@mountainpeakpilates.com for rates and booking.
I'm happy to travel to you if you are a Utah resident in any of Davis, Salt Lake, or Summit counties. I typically prefer to work with studio-grade equipment (e.g., Balanced Body, Stott, Merrithew). Reach out to me at sara@mountainpeakpilates.com for rates and booking.
Absolutely! Group Pilates classes are a fun way for colleagues and team members to try something new together. I can teach Pilates Mat classes for groups up to 25 people. Reach out to me at sara@mountainpeakpilates.com for rates and booking.
